Healthy workplaces to be recognized

22 Oct 2009

by: Simcoe County Workplace Wellness Committee

Twelve employers in the region will be recognized for their efforts at the annual Healthy Workplace Recognition Awards event on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Into its fourth year, the awards program run by the Simcoe County Workplace Wellness Network will be presented at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Workplaces from across Simcoe and Muskoka spent the last year establishing and promoting programs to create a working environment that fosters healthy behaviours and well-being for their employees. Activities involved waging awareness campaigns, providing education opportunities and changing policies to help improve employee health. Policies could include requiring healthy foods at long meetings, establishing flexible hours or setting up bike racks in the parking lot.

The event is a great opportunity to network and learn what other workplaces are doing to improve the health of their employees. Display booths will have timely and valuable information for employers and employees.
