Your Health Connection phone line open Saturday to answer H1N1 questions

30 Oct 2009

The health unit’s Your Health Connection phone line will be staffed this Saturday, Oct. 31, to answer residents’ questions about H1N1 and the upcoming immunization clinics.

Clinics are set to begin Tuesday, Nov. 3 in six locations across the area. New clinics have been added on Fridays to increase the public’s access to the vaccine.

Only those people who would benefit most from the vaccine should visit the clinics in the first weeks of November. This group includes:

  • People with chronic medical conditions under the age of 65
  •  All children from six months to five years old
  • Household members and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized (e.g. infants under six months of age) or may not respond to vaccines
  • Health care workers involved in pandemic response or who deliver essential services
        • Pregnant women.

The clinics are scheduled to run through November, with the ability to expand into December based on demand, to ensure all people who want and need an H1N1 vaccine can get one.

Residents are reminded to bring their health card and driver’s licence with them to the clinics if possible to speed up the registration process.

Clinic details, including location and hours of operation are available on the health unit website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org, or by calling Your Health Connection this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520.
