Hydro One is turning off the power to about 8,200 customers in Penetanguishene, Midland and area this Sunday for repairs. The health unit says this means making plans to keep perishable food safe.
With power off from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. refrigerators may not be able to keep food such as meats, fish and seafood, dairy products, eggs and leftovers at safe temperatures. Keep refrigerators closed and add ice bags and freezer packs to help keep temperatures cooler for longer.
People on private wells or private water treatment systems should check that everything is running properly when the power comes back on.
For more information on staying safe and healthy during power outages, visit the health unit’s website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org, or call Your Health Connection at 721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
