  • The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s Youth Action Alliance, Article 4 will be at the Bayfield Mall, Friday the 13th (Friday October 13th, 2006) raising awareness among youth about the tobacco industry – how it targets them to pick up a deadly habit – using a stunning dramatic presentation.  

  • The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is asking residents to avoid drinking and to discard certain brands of carrot juice following a product recall issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.  

  • October 1 to 7 is World Breastfeeding Week in Canada.  

  • The power failures resulting from Sunday morning’s windstorms through Muskoka have left many people with possible health hazards in their homes.  

  • August and September are the months when people are most at risk from West Nile virus. 

  • With some areas of Simcoe and Muskoka experiencing power outages due to the storm that passed through Wednesday, residents could have some concerns with the safety of food in refrigerators and freezers. 

  • Many Muskoka residents who rely on private wells will have lost access to their drinking supply with this week’s power failures.  

  • With a smog advisory in effect for our region for both today and tomorrow the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit suggests people both avoid unnecessary exposure to smog and avoid producing smog-causing emissions.  

  • With the high heat and humidity continuing over the next few days, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit recommends that people put some precautions in place to protect their health.  

  • Immunizations are the best way to protect yourself from preventable diseases such as measles, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus.

  • The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is once again sending out letters to parents about their children’s immunization records.
