First public flu clinics start this week

31 Oct 2011

Response to the online booking system for flu shot appointments has been strong, the health unit reports.

A number of the community flu clinics scheduled for the month of November are already fully booked, so people are urged to make appointments as soon as possible.

The clinics, being run by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, take place every Wednesday and Saturday at various locations throughout Simcoe Muskoka from Wednesday, Nov. 2 to Saturday, Nov. 26.

To book appointments online, go to www.simcoemuskokahealth.org and clicking on the Flu Online button. The online system allows people to pick the location and date most convenient for them.

Some limited space may be available at the clinics to accommodate drop-in traffic, but those who drop in should expect to wait.

Those without computer access can call Your Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

People can also check with their health care provider to obtain the flu shot, or look for clinics being held by local pharmacies or workplaces. Some clinics are also open to the public at the Orillia and Barrie campuses of Georgian College.

Immunization is safe and is the most effective means of preventing the flu for you and your family.
