Innisfil is ready to celebrate National Breastfeeding Week!

INNISFIL – The Global Breastfeeding Challenge 2015 takes place October 3, and all breastfeeding families are invited to join in at the Innisfil Public Library, Lakeshore Branch!

INNISFIL – The Global Breastfeeding Challenge 2015 takes place October 3, and all breastfeeding families are invited to join in at the Innisfil Public Library, Lakeshore Branch! The Global Breastfeeding Challenge is a fun and friendly competition in which families come together and attempt to set the record for the most children breastfeeding simultaneously.

Date:                Saturday Oct. 3, 2015 

Time:               Registration begins at 10 a.m. drop-in story time begins at 10:30 a.m. latch on follows at 11 a.m.

Location:          Innisfil Public Library & ideaLAB, Lakeshore Branch

The purpose of this challenge is to bring awareness to breastfeeding, milk-banking and demonstrate promotion, protection and support for breastfeeding women and their families.

Innisfil Mayor Gord Wauchope will be showing the community's support for breastfeeding with a proclamation of National Breastfeeding Week and a flag raising ceremony to kick off the week. Proclamation and flag raising will take place on October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Innisfil Town Hall.

Watch for a life-sized photographic cutout of a local woman breastfeeding her child on display at the library now and at the latch on. The cutout is part of a campaign by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reminding the public that women need support and encouragement to breastfeed anytime and anywhere, wherever their children need them. Breastfeeding is welcome signs are available for local businesses, community and municipal organizations wanting to show their support too.  

About National Breastfeeding Week

Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries. In Canada, our national celebration takes place each year from October 1 to 7. It is promoted by INFACT Canada and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action and is supported by Unicef and The World Health Organization. The theme for 2015 is BREASTFEEDING AND WORK - LET’S MAKE IT WORK!
