SIMCOE MUSKOKA – Environment Canada has issued a heat warning today for Angus, Barrie, Blue Mountains, Innisfil, Midland, New Tecumseth and Orillia, as temperatures are expected to reach 30°C with a humidex value that could reach 40°C this afternoon. While elevated temperatures can put everyone at risk for heat illnesses, such as heat stroke, exhaustion or fainting, health risks are greatest for older adults, infants and children, persons with preexisting medical conditions such as heart disease and homeless persons. To reduce your risk of heat illness, avoid sun exposure by shading yourself, drink plenty of cool liquids, and take regular breaks from the heat, in cool locations whenever possible.
