Safe food sales in Orillia

Feb 22, 2012

The public health unit works with restaurants and other food vendors to ensure that food is safe for consumption and to ensure compliance with provincial regulations and guidelines.

The City of Orillia requires all transient vendors and mobile food stands to obtain a licence before selling their goods. To obtain a licence, the vendor has to consult with the health unit to make sure their food preparation and handling is done safely, and will not cause illness to the consumer. The same goes for special events where food will be served.

Anyone who wants to start up a small food vending operation or run a special event where food service is being planned can talk with a public health inspector at the new Orillia office of the health unit in The Common Roof at 169 Front Street South.

For more information on food safety you can also visit www.simcoemuskokahealth.org, or call Your Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
