  • Emphasize the benefits of following the LRDGs.

  • Encourage talking about their reasons for reducing their alcohol consumption.
    How do you think reducing your drinking will benefit you?
  • Encourage talking about their concerns about the process of reducing their alcohol consumption.
    Have you thought about how you will reduce your alcohol consumption?
  • Encourage examining some concerns and barriers to reducing alcohol consumption.
    What problems do you think you’ll run into?
  • Gently offer possible solutions that have worked for others.
