Preparing Sanitizing Solutions

Daily Sanitizing Solution

For common touch surfaces, toys and equipment etc.

BLEACH : WATER

200 ppm (5.25 % Household bleach)

  • Prepare by mixing 5ml Bleach: 1 L water.
  • Wipe area and let air dry.
  • Use chlorine test strips to determine trength.

QUATERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUNDS

400 ppm.

  • Follow manufactures instructions for dilution.
  • Wipe area and let air dry.
  • Use quaternary ammonium test strips to determine strength.

Other disinfectants may be used.  Consult with the Health Unit.

Note:  Food contact surfaces in kitchens must be sanitized per Recreational Camps Regulation R.R.0.568/90 

Disinfecting Solution for Cleaning Up Blood, Vomit, Feces or During Outbreaks

When disinfecting an area contaminated with blood or body fluids, use a disinfectant with proven effectiveness against non-enveloped viruses (e.g. Norovirus, Rotavirus, Feline Calicivirus).  If mixing a solution of bleach and water, follow the instructions below.

 

BLEACH : WATER

5000 ppm (5.25 % Household bleach)

  • Prepare by mixing 1 cup Bleach: 9 cups water
  • Contact time on surface is a minimum of 10 minutes
  • Prepare fresh mixture daily
  • See procedure for Cleaning up blood spills and vomit

 

Bleach fumes can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat, and damage clothing and shoes.  Ensure area is well ventilated and protective gloves are worn when handling bleach products.
