Personal Service Settings - Operators

A personal service setting (PSS) is one where services such as: tattooing, body and ear piercing, hairdressing, barbering, manicures, pedicures, micro-blading, waxing, micro-needling, permanent makeup, tanning and facials are offered.  If these services are not provided in a clean and safe manner, there is a risk of infection to your customers and staff.

The government of Ontario recently released a new Personal Service Setting Regulation that came into effect on July 1, 2018.  Our infection control inspections of your business are based on this regulation and the Ontario Guide to the Infection Prevention and Control in Personal Service Settings, 3rd edition .  Business owners and operators are responsible for making sure services are offered according to the legislation and PSS Best Practices. The information on this page is to help you comply with provincial requirements and provide safe services to your customers.
