Research into the risks posed by the use of pesticides and herbicides has produced mixed results. In 2007 the health unit conducted its own review of research into pesticide use bylaws, comparing their effectiveness against education and outreach programs. The research findings have helped the health unit shape its own position statement on the residential, non-essential use of pesticides. They also serve as a resource for municipalities considering bylaws to control non-essential residential use of pesticides.
