Flu vaccine still available

Nov 27, 2013
Today (Wednesday, Nov. 27) is the last day of public flu vaccine clinics run by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

SIMCOE MUSKOKA -Today (Wednesday, Nov. 27) is the last day of public flu vaccine clinics run by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Vaccine is still available across the region, though, at more than 80 pharmacies, from personal health care professionals and at some workplace clinics arranged by employers.

As the holiday season nears, making sure you and your family are immunized against the flu is important for staying healthy. Viruses love to travel around with people who are travelling. Last year proved that risk, as there was a strong surge of cases of influenza at the end of December and early January.

Being immunized protects yourself, but perhaps more importantly, it prevents spreading the virus to babies, the frail elderly and others whose immune systems are compromised who could develop life-threatening complications from the flu.

For more information about the flu and the flu shot, visit the health unit’s website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org, or call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
