More communities are sprucing up their roadways with better sidewalks and cycling lanes.

So why not take advantage of them? If your college or workplace is a short distance from home, consider cycling instead of taking the car.

Cycling is a great workout. It will help increase the life of your car, not to mention your own life. A daily ride can give you more energy to focus on your work or studies.

Make a commitment to increase your physical activity by taking the I Can Walk pledge, at www.icanwalk.ca.

The website calculates how far your pledge will take you in a year and how many kilograms of greenhouse gas emission you will have saved by not driving.

Your health will benefit as well.
