Make every ride a safe ride

May 19, 2011
Car seats have changed a lot over the years and their presence has helped reduce deaths and injuries to children immensely, but they work best when installed correctly.

Safe Kids Week is May 30 to June 5, 2011

Car seats have changed a lot over the years and their presence has helped reduce deaths and injuries to children immensely, but they work best when installed correctly.

The Canadian Paediatric Society notes the most common errors are:

  • the seat not secured tightly enough (less than an inch movement side to side and front to back)
  • the harness system not snug (should be able to fit one finger between strap and harness, and
  • the chest clip not at armpit level.

If you have questions about your child’s car seat – reread the instructions and call Your Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or toll free at 1-877-721-7520 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday or see www.simcoemuskokahealth.org. You make Every Ride a Safe Ride.
