It’s National Non-Smoking Week. If you are among the one in five adults who still smokes this is a great time to start planning to quit.

It’s National Non-Smoking Week. If you are among the one in five adults who still smokes this is a great time to start planning to quit. 

And if you go smoke free for the month of March you could win a new Honda Hybrid in the annual Driven to Quit Challenge. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit offers these tips to help you get started.

  • Set a quit date. Enter the challenge now and quit for the month of March.
  • Plan to succeed. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about products and services that can help. 
  • Start cutting down as you get closer to your quit date.
  • When a craving strikes, use the four Ds.
    • Delay
    • Drink Water
    • Deep Breathe
    • Distract yourself (do something else).
