The purpose of celebrating the week is to bring awareness to breastfeeding, and demonstrate promotion, protection and support for breastfeeding women and their families. Being able to breastfeed whenever and wherever a child is hungry or needs comfort is critical to breastfeeding success.

The Muskoka community is already welcoming breastfeeding. Join other businesses and organizations and display a welcome sign for breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is Welcome signs are available for local businesses, community and municipal organizations wanting to show their support.

About National Breastfeeding Week

Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries. In Canada, our national celebration takes place each year from October 1st to 7th. It is promoted by INFACT Canada and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action and is supported by Unicef and The World Health Organization.

For more information, or for your Breastfeeding is Welcome sign, call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or see www.simcoemuskokahealth.org.
