SIMCOE-MUSKOKA – Are you breathing easier thanks to the help of a tobacco-free champion?

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is once again calling for nominations for our Tobacco-Free Champions awards. The awards recognize local champions who are helping people play, live or become tobacco free in their communities.

The awards will be presented on World No Tobacco Day May 31. The annual global celebration is designed to share successes and the work being done to reduce the preventable deaths and diseases caused by tobacco product use.

Do you know a worthy individual or group? Perhaps they:

  • Are dedicated to helping people quit
  • Are champions for more tobacco-free outdoor spaces
  • Encourage youth and act as a positive role model for living tobacco free
  • Work to increase the supply of smoke-free apartment and condos to protect tenants from secondhand smoke.

The short nomination form and a list of past winners can be found on the tobacco pages of our website at, or call Health Connection weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 705-721-7520 or toll free at 1-877-721-7520. The nomination deadline is May 12.
