News Release

Online appointment booking for flu clinics

Oct 09, 2012

SIMCOE MUSKOKA - Community influenza immunization clinics run by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit are ready to roll in November.

But rather than join the lineups, the public can book their flu shots now, using the health unit’s online appointment booking system.

The health unit’s website,, has a hot button on the home page that will take you to the online appointment booking system. You’ll be able to choose the clinic you would like to attend and then select a time for your flu shot appointment.

As in recent years, the clinics will be held Wednesdays and Saturdays from Saturday, Nov. 3 to Wednesday, Nov. 28 throughout Simcoe and Muskoka.

“The online booking process was very popular last year,” vaccine program manager Laurie Stanford said, “we had 96 per cent of our clinic spots booked online.”

During the month of October, individuals with a high risk of complications from influenza may receive their vaccine from health care professionals.

Stanford recommends the flu shot for everyone six months of age and over, either at a health unit community flu clinic, from their health care provider or at a workplace clinic. People can also check with their local pharmacy to see if they plan to hold a clinic.

The vaccine, which covers three different strains of the flu, is the most effective means of preventing the spread one of the most unpleasant diseases of the winter season. For the very young and the old, and for those with chronic disease, influenza can be life threatening.

People who can’t book a clinic appointment online can call Your Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
